Geography of NYC was taught annually at Hunter College (CUNY) for sixteen years. In addition to lectures and readings, students followed a number of assigned walks and lead a walk in a specific neighborhood. Similar courses have been taught at Queens College (CUNY) and Long Island University. I currently teach a variation as an adult continuing education course at the Cooper Union.

Ground Proof: Essential Urban Geography of NYC taught where it happens is an immersion experience completely in the field. It was developed for users of Geographic Information Systems technology (GIS) but is open to all. It’s focused on those places where spatial change is greatest in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. Instruction consists of informal on-site lectures, reference to distributed maps and group discussion. Schedule: Instruction takes place over two days. Each day consist of six walks with a lunch break. It is designed to be an enjoyable outing and an opportunity to network with GIS users and related professionals as well as an educational experience. Taught intermittently.
